Selah (Relief)

That pause between breath,
A negative space,
The meaning derived from perspective.
Barren?
Or Vivified with potential?
Deserted?
Or ensouled sentry, welcoming transitions?
……..(a gasp)………

About this piece:  One of my favorite poems is by Kabir, in which he discusses the existence of divinity as the breath inside the breath (here: https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/are-you-looking-for-me/) .  The poem above is a play with Kabir’s imagery, as well as the spiritual practices of breath work, practicing the pause (mindfulness), ecstatic states that might cause the breath to catch (spiritual, artistic, sensual/sexual, etc), and transitional states or thresholds between states (inhaling and exhaling, life and death).  Selah is derived from the Book of Psalms and is thought to mean “to praise” or “to pause and reflect”.
